Overstrength and ductility factors of XBF structures with pinned and fixed supports

Abstract In today's time, most seismic design codes are based on a linear elastic force-based approach that includes the nonlinear response (ductility and overstrength) of structure through reduction factor (named behavior q in Eurocode 8 [EC8]). However, use prescribed -factor is constant for given structural system may fail providing structures with same risk level. This paper focuses estimation actual values X-braced steel frames (XBFs) designed according to European comparing these those suggested EC8. For this purpose, pushover analysis has been performed. The effects specific parameters, such as stories number, brace slenderness ratio, local members, support type, evaluated. results show important parameter affects while type less effect factor. Furthermore, strength criterion proposed implicitly ensure value conservative.
